Care of newborn puppies and their mother takes time and attention from you. They should be monitored continuously during the early days, beware of the wind and other dangers that are surrounding them. For the expectant mother and puppies should be safe you should take some safety measures and to ensure them comfort. Before the birth of puppies prepare a box roomy enough for both puppies and mother. Make sure it is comfortable, because the dogs will spend a great deal of time in the place arranged. On bottom surface put a piece of nylon to prevent fluid to pass and then cover it with a layer of disposable paper towels, newspapers or an old soft blanket. If you opt for beds, it would be better to have two, so you can change regularly.

It is advisable to keep dogs in the house during the first weeks of life, even if their mother was sitting alone in the yard so they will be protected from hazards such as high heat, frost or altercations with other animals. Take care that the chosen place would be away from direct sunlight which can be very strong in summer.

1. Make sure in that place is a constant temperature. Keep a constant temperature suitable for dogs, using an electric lamp placed above the box where they stand. Normally, an adult dog's body temperature is between 38 and 39 degree Celsius, but a puppy's body temperature is around 35 and 36 degree Celsius. You can easily detect if their thermal discomforted as they sleep huddled in the cold weather, or distance from one another, if it is too hot. Make it a temperature of about 30 degree Celsius in the first week, and then gradually reduce it to 24 or 25 degree Celsius or at normal room temperature if it exceeds 25 degree Celsius. You can measure the temperature with a thermometer inside the box placed on the walls.

2. Change their bedding more often. Make them clean and hygienic conditions. If you use a paper litter, change it at least once a day and if you use a blanket then you will have to replace and wash it at least once for two or three days. If you opted for a blanket, put over a layer of paper towels, which can be thrown at the end of the day or even several times a day, if time allows. This will help maintain clean longer.

3.Evaluate the puppies and their mother. In the first weeks of life, carefully watch the evolution of dogs. They must be active and take a few grams of weight daily. If you notice any change in the behavior of puppies or the mother during this period, consult a veterinarian immediately.

4. Washing dogs. After their eyes open, the dogs will begin to walk around the house. Because of this, washing dogs may be necessary, but only if they get dirty. Use just warm water without soap or shampoo. Try not to totally immerse them in water if it is not necessary, and remove the dirt with the wet hand or wash them only on the dirt area.

5. If needed, feeding them supplementary. Make sure puppies drink enough milk from their mother. If a dog is walking beside his mother, looking for a source of food and crying, that means they didn't get the daily requirement of food just from this. In this case you can supplement with feeding puppies formula. Talk with your veterinarian before and he will tell you what type of milk are right for them, in what quantity and how long you can feed them.

It is all that simple. So if you will do it right then you will soon see growing up some nice healthy puppies.
